FREQUENTLY ASKED BATHROOM FITTER QUESTIONS:

  • Is it cheaper to install larger bathroom tiles?

When working out tiling costs it's important to consider both the cost of materials and labour on a square metre basis. Of course, larger tiles will be more expensive than smaller ones but you will need to compare the total per m2 price to see which tile is really cheaper. Regarding installation, smaller tiles will take longer due to more needing to be fitted on with more spacers and grouting being required so this will typically be reflected in the price, although many wall tiling projects, in particular, will utilise a variety of tiles sizes or at least perhaps have a feature section of some different tiles which may influence the overall price. Also, depending on how you want the tiles to be laid this may involve more tile cutting which is why we like to discuss each project completely independently in order to give an accurate quote and see where overall you get the bathroom you want without having to compromise to much.

  • What's the difference between a wet room and a shower room?

A shower room is normally a fully enclosed zone where you will have your showers. Designed specifically for this purpose, unless your shower is over your bath, you will step up onto a shower tray. The shower tray sits on top of your bathroom floor and the tray itself provides the waterproof floor on which you stand to take your shower.

A wet room may or may not be enclosed as the shower area and typically has the same floor tiles as seen throughout the rest of the bathroom floor.  A slope is formed by the floor tiles to channel the shower water to the drain. To ensure a watertight floor waterproof membranes are placed across the floor and partway up the walls near the shower area referred to as 'tanking'.

If you think about your current bathroom or shower room, you’ll notice that there are zones in the room that are waterproof and others that are not. We usually have tiled areas around the bath or the shower to keep the water out of the walls, but the flooring and other areas are not waterproofed. However, in a full wet room, the entire room is like a sealed, waterproof box. All of the walls will be specially treated and tiled – as will the floor – and this will stop any leaks or dampness from getting into other parts of the house. As wet rooms are fully waterproof, there is often no need for a separate shower tray, as the water just flows into the integrated drain formed within the floor tiles.

  • Why choose J&Z Bathroom Fitters to install a new bathroom in Cardiff?

You will be dealing with one contractor from start to finish we have all the skills and trades under our own roof so you can have consistency in dealing with one company, once price and once invoice. If there is anything that you may want tweaking once work has commenced then this is much easier to do when dealing with one company. We can manage the whole process from stripping out your own bathroom, procuring all items, or some of the times required for your new bathroom and installing the lot. Our customer focus and flexibility will mean that you won't have to compromise on getting the bathroom you've always dream of for the budget you've got.

  • What's the best underfloor heating for a bathroom?

This will depend on what heating system you currently have but since most homes have traditional gas-powered boilers feeding radiators throughout the house to just install underfloor heating into one relatively 'small' room of a house, electric is much cheaper to fit and requires less height - so you won't need to step up into your bathroom from the landing.

Whilst electricity is a little more expensive to run the beauty about just having an electric underfloor heating in your bathroom is that you can time it accurately for when you know you will be using that room so you can be in complete control of only having it on when you need it.

  • Can you provide bathroom units and sanitaryware?

Yes, we can. We have a number of suppliers we use and get good trade rates with them. We can show you all the options they have and if you choose from them it will make scheduling your bathroom installation easier and guarantee their units too.

  • If we buy all the sanitary ware and bathroom units to you offer a bathroom installation only service

Yes, we do. With most customers, it will be a combination of items you have bought for your bathroom and others that we will buy in. We understand that some people will find a particular item themselves online and want that for their bathroom but be more flexible on other items. Combining the two options isn't an issue, however; we would need you to be on top of having your items delivered in time and ready for installation otherwise this could lead to delays and additional charges for lost time.
