For those bathroom designs that are utilising tiles for some of the walls enclosing a shower or a wetroom the tiling will run form floor to ceiling. However, since parts outside of the shower area will not be subjected to the same amount of direct water by partial tiling you will be able to save quite a bit of money which may come handy when selecting where to prioritise yor bathroom budget.

By part tiling and then painting with a suitable mould and moisture resitant paint you can break the monotony of a single wall tile as well as making some savings.
The fastest growing alternative to tiles are bathroom panels. These will vary from one manufacturer to another in terms of quality and designs. They are mostly used fro the walls enclosing a wet room or a bare wall forming part of a shower enclosure but as they require very little maintenance and cleaning they are ticking the needs of modern homes. Whilst there is no reason that the whole of a bathroom cannot be paneled, due to their costs normally the rest of a bathroom will be tiles and / or painted making the shower area a distinct feature zone, which can look exceptionally good.
