When it comes to choosing the right wall option for your bathroom, there are a variety of materials and finishes available.

Whatever you decide on the team at J&Z Bathroom Fitters Cardiff are on hand to install, prepare and repair your bathroom walls as part of a bathroom makeover.

When undertaking a full  bathroom remodelling there will often be a high level of wall damage when ripping out your old bathroom.

The extend of this will depend on the installation practices utilised within your existing bathroom both from professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

If you have moved into a property and you don't know the histry behind you existing old bathroom then the journey will only begin during the bathroom strip out process.

If you are relocating sanitary ware then waste holes, pipes, radiator fixings and bathroom unnit fixings will have requried some form of fixing to our cutting out sections of your wall to function properly. Also if you are removing tiles of panel boards the adhesives will mean that upon removing them from you wall you will be left with a very uneven and damaged wall.

Don't worry this is all part of the process of installing a new bathroom and once we've transformed your bathroom you'll never know that your previous bathroom ever existed!

Bathroom Wall Preparation

Since a bathroom will be subjected to more moisture than any other room in your house their are certain product decisions surrounding your walls that will be slightly different to those in other rooms of your home. For example. Most new build properties will install moisture resistant plasterboards in a bathroom. This is good practise depending on how the boards will be finished. If you know that an are is decinately going to be tiled simply installing tile backer boards means that tiles can be directly fitted to those boards, rather than having to apply PVA primer to moisture resistant baords, so that the tile adhesive has something it can stick on to.

Some walls may only suffer surface damage when removing older wall fixtures and our plasterer can replaster these walls to look like new, ready for painting over if this is a plan for those walls. For large holes plasterboard patch repairs will be need to 'plug in the holes'.

Where heavier wall units or floating toilets are to be fitted, we will prepare the walls by adding a patress so that the fixings for these items have a strong anchor onto which they can be attached. Otherwise they are unlikely to remain attached for long!

Bathroom Wall Options

Once all walls have been appropriately prepared for the final layer our team can then get on with the aesthetic part of wall finishing. In terms of thre optoins - still at top spot for bathrooms are wall tiles either ceramic, porclain or glass. There is a massive variety of tile designs, sizes, textures that you are sure to find an option to match you bathroom.

Much less popular, but potentially very effective, is using a suitable moisture-resistant wallpaper. For a feature wall a high humidity vinyl wall paper can provide intricate deisgns and patterns, very different from more traditional bathroom wall options.

For those bathroom designs that are utilising tiles for some of the walls enclosing a shower or a wetroom the tiling will run form floor to ceiling. However, since parts outside of the shower area will not be subjected to the same amount of direct water by partial tiling you will be able to save quite a bit of money which may come handy when selecting where to prioritise yor bathroom budget.

By part tiling and then painting with a suitable mould and moisture resitant paint you can break the monotony of a single wall tile as well as making some savings.
The fastest growing alternative to tiles are bathroom panels. These will vary from one manufacturer to another in terms of quality and designs. They are mostly used fro the walls enclosing a wet room or a bare wall forming part of a shower enclosure but as they require very little maintenance and cleaning they are ticking the needs of modern homes. Whilst there is no reason that the whole of a bathroom cannot be paneled, due to their costs normally the rest of a bathroom will be tiles and / or painted making the shower area a distinct feature zone, which can look exceptionally good.
Our team can prepare and install all the bathroom wall finishes you could hope for so J&Z Bathroom Fitters are a perect one stop shop for bathroom installations.

Frequently Asked Bathroom Unit Installation Questions

  • What is the most popular bathroom wall finish in Cardiff?

Tiling is still the most popular for both floors and walls. Most bathrooms will still have some walls part tiled, and then a newly plastered and painted wall will complement the tiling.

However, bathroom acrylic wallboards are becoming much more popular now. A stone, glass or papered wall is much less popular.

  • What is the most durable and hard wearing bathroom wall option?

Tiles are very durable if properly installed. However, the grout between them is less durable and prone to mould and mildew buildup, which has enabled acrylic panels to grow in popularity.

Whilst these are not as durable as tiles and are easier to scratch during normal use, they should be fine and last many years.

Where budgets allow natural stone such as marble or granite can be used for walls and is exceptionally durable and resistant to scratches and stains but are unfortunately beyond many bathroom budgets.

  • What should I consider when chosing a bathroom wall?

As a bathroom will be the wettest room in your house, the better water-resistant capabilities a material will have, the longer it will last. Also, a bathroom if generally a heavily used room which is likely to suffer the odd knock, so selecting a durable wall surface is also a prudent consideration.

Ease to keeping clean is becoming high on more and more people's lists, as is the eco-friendliness of a product.

  • Why choose J&Z Bathroom Fiiters Cardiff to finish off our bathroom walls?
